Posted on October 12th, 2006 in About Boat-Dealers.US by

Just heared a news regarding a group of British sports car engineers who have turned their design skills to creating a small electric-powered leisure craft at a dramatically low price. The name given to the boat is ‘Andare Attivo’ and they are planning to get it launched in the spring or early summer of 2007, aiming to open up boating to a much wider audience than ever before, because their boat will cost just £10,000.

The Attivo has been created by Keith Helfet, whose expertise includes cars such as the Jaguar XJ220 and the F-type concept, and a team of sports car engineers. The 3.5m boat designed mainly for inland waterways use, will carry four people while cruising, and sleep two adults. Inside, it will have a seating area, table, running water and electricity supply, features that can all be used on water but also on land in place of a tent or trailer tent. An electric motor propels the Attivo, powered by two 12-volt batteries. you can find more such boat reviews at Boat-dealers .

Frequently Asked Questions - Boats

Posted on September 26th, 2006 in About Boat-Dealers.US by

Which type of boat best suits me?

Purpose. Take this into consideration as this would most likely dictate the type of boat that you have to purchase. You may want a boat for recreational purposes so the best boat type is one that’s fit for fishing and or picnic on a boat.

With this in mind you can narrow down your preferences and spot the boat that can cater your needs for such purpose.

Refer to our boat buyer’s guide e-book to find out what type of boat suits you best. But before getting into it, make sure that you already know what your purpose is in purchasing a boat.

What is the best boat engine?

In deciding what engine would be best for your boat, consider first the purpose of using your boat. For example, if you plan to go water skiing you will need more powered engine than of other boat activities i.e. fishing as you will need lesser power for such.

Also consider the fuel efficiency of the engine and whether it brings harm to the environment or not—that is if you’re concerned with the environment.

How much will I pay for a boat?

Two things you have to remember in buying a boat are PURPOSE and BUDGET. Always keep in mind that you just have to select the boat that would address your need or desire. You don’t have to spend much for a boat suitable for skiing when your purpose for buying one is just for simple fishing or boat picnic activities.

Loans are available anywhere. Your boat dealer can arrange for that.

Are new boats always better than used ones?

New ones are always better but in buying a luxurious boat consider the used boat also. But the first thing you have to do is to shop or eye for new ones then go on comparing it to pre-owned boats. A boat expert of even friends who are into boats can be good source of opinions as to which is better when you have your final basis of comparison.

If I prefer the used boat, how do I know that it is in good condition?

There are qualified marine surveyors who can inspect the condition of the boat. Their tasks involve systems check enabling them to know if the boat has been properly maintained and if it is still advisable to purchase it. Insurance companies are a good source for a list of surveyors.

When is the best time to purchase a boat?

It is up to you and your available resources. Although shopping for a boat on boat shows would be good but it would still be useless if you are not yet prepared.

What is a good boat dealer?

A dealer must be Marine Industry Certified. The one handling your plan must always know how to address your need and or help you realize what type of boat you really need

Boat parts

Posted on September 25th, 2006 in About Boat-Dealers.US by

The number of parts in a boat can vary depending upon the model and manufacturer of the boat. Some of the most common parts of a boat are listed below.

  1. Deck and Cockpit
  2. Steering Systems
  3. Propellers Shafts
  4. Bow thrusters
  5. Cabin
  6. Boat stoves.
  7. Radars
  8. Seats

Deck and Cockpit are very important part of the boat. Deck may have various type of hardware like chocks and hawse pipes, dock cleats deck plates etc. Cockpit basically instruments some fitted in it few hand held like wind speed indicator and compass. In cockpit there can be tables also. These tables fit all pedestal steering guards (with 7/8 inches or 1 inches diameter tubing) positioned in front of the steering post through the use of pedestal clamps which are included. The steering post must not protrude beyond the front of the pedestal guard. If this is the case, the table will not be able to attach properly to the guard due to interference from the steering post.

Steering Systems Boat steering wheels are made from a variety of materials such as polyurethane, plastic, wood, and stainless steel. If your boat has a lot of horsepower, or if your trip is going to be mostly offshore and in rough seas, then it is best to go in for an aluminum or stainless steel model.

When buying steering wheels, make sure you buy one that is water-resistant and provides you with a good grip, so that you have fine steering control when riding your boat. Edson, Schmitt, and Vetus are some of the manufacturers of steering wheels.

Propellers Shafts connects engine to propeller. While fitting a propeller shaft precision level alignment is required. A rudder stuffing box prevents the water from entering the boat through the rudder shaft hole. Various types of seals or packing glands can be used

Bow Thrusters: when maneuvering a boat, which has nearly come to a standstill, the required control of the movements of the boat, especially those of the bow, is extremely difficult to achieve. In such cases, a bow thruster is the solution of the problem. Even when the boat lies dead in the water, complete control of the movements of the ship’s bow will be ensured by operating the bow thruster.

Cabin in boat may contain bedding, fans, lighting, Stateroom and storage. You should keep cabin dry for that take dry bunk, and dry wave air.

Boat stoves are used to provide heat, cooking and hot water from a single appliance. Boat stoves installation will need a different chimney setup.

Radar: We put radar on our boat to be able to “see” through fog, rain and darkness. Radar can see targets in a way similar to the way we see things with use of a flashlight in complete darkness, when the only objects we can see are those illuminated by the flashlight’s beam. Radar works in a similar way, except that it can “see” only the minute amount of the radio frequency energy it has transmitted that has been reflected back to the radars’ its antenna. A marine radar antenna keeps on rotating all the time, illuminating its surroundings by the continuous series of very short duration, rapidly repeated pulses of energy.

Seats: A fishing boat can have two to three seats and this depends on the design and model of the boat.

Review of Sail Boat

Posted on September 21st, 2006 in Boat Reviews by
Boat Dealers - Boat review of Sail Boat

A Sail boat uses the wind as its primary means of propulsion.Sailboats may also have a motor which is used as additional power source. Most sailboats have a monohull, but multi-hull catamarans and trimarans are popular. Some of the variations other than size are: hull configuration (monohull, catamaran, trimaran), keel type (full, fin, wing, centerboard etc.), purpose (sport, racing, cruising), number and configuration of masts, and the sail plan. Some of the terms below have had various meanings through history, but now have a specific meaning in the parlance of modern yachting. They are divided into three basic types, according to the activity for which they are designed.

Daysailer - A daysailer is a small boat designed for comfortable sailing but without sleeping accommodation. It has a roomy cockpit and can have an outboard auxiliary engine.

Cruiser - A cruiser is a medium-sized or large boat that has a cabin with sleeping quarters, head (toilet), galley (where food is prepared) and generally has an auxiliary engine built inside.

Racer - A racer is a boat designed for speed and ease of handling, often at the expense of comfort. The two popular styles are the racer-daysailer designed primarily for racing and secondly for day sailing, and the cruiser-racer designed mainly for overnight cruising and secondly for racing.

Sailboats range from a one person boat at about 2.5 metres long to luxury yachts measuring 46 metres or more in length.

Review of Pontoon Boat

Posted on September 21st, 2006 in About Boat-Dealers.US, Boat Reviews by
Boat Dealers

The Pontoon Boat - also known as the “Party Barge” is a type of boat with a flat deck attached to airtight flotation tubes or logs. It may be simply constructed from closed cylinders such as pipes or barrels or fabricated as boxes from metal or concrete. These may be used to support a simple platform, creating a raft. A raft supporting a house-like structure is one form of houseboat. Today’s pontoon boats use extruded larger aluminum square tubing which is either anodized or powder coated and covered by coated aluminum paneling that displays matching stripping and graphics and act as framework for the pontoon furniture. The interior of the pontoon boat has evolved a great deal since the first pontoon boat was created.

Pontoon boats are very easy to trailer though a special pontoon boat trailer is needed, these are available in either bunk styles which support the pontoon tubes on raised bunks or you can purchase an up/down model that supports the pontoon boat underneath the aluminum frame work of the deck.

The capacity of Pontoon boat is from 6 to 15 people. They come in various sizes ranging from 12 feet to 30 feet in length.

Pros -

  • With a Pontoon boat you can enjoy water sports such as skiing and tubing.
  • On a pontoon boat you can take your family out on the water for hours of enjoyment and not feel cramped, it truly is the best family fun boat you can buy and has been one of the only segments in the boating industry that has experienced significant growth.
  • Pontoon boats are also a fine, stable platform for still fishing.
  • They offer the largest value in terms of capacity to price.

Cons -

  • Pontoon boats generally run slower.
  • Pontoon boats are NOT good sea boats. You want to be very careful when taking your pontoon boat out on larger bodies of water such as Ocean.
